In memory of Maria Sfagsi

On Saturday 30th April I am taking part in the 2016 Tough Mudder challenge in memory of my mum, Maria. I will be running 20K and tackling a series of Tough Mudder obstacles along the way.

My mum was a very kind person who was dearly loved by so many. She was a caring friend, wife, sister, auntie, mother, grandmother and is so sorely missed by many more. Maria spent 2 months in intensive care but what felt like an eternity, fighting through a nasty virus and multiple operations she made it home in time for her graduation and my little brother’s birthday. My mother cared for so many and landed her dream job as a nurse after 3 long years at university whilst raising 2 young children.

Just a few days before her graduation ceremony my mum passed away unexpectedly at home from a pulmonary embolism caused by a deep vein thrombosis. She is deeply missed by her large family, circle of friends and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. As a family we would like to continue to help others in her memory as she did her whole life. We hope to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of thrombosis and to raise money for research to prevent such a tragedy like this happening to another family.

Thank you for reading.
